Miss Yeo Packs a Colourful Punch
By Rosanna Stevens.
We aren’t talking about the Marc Jacobs range here; the world’s fascination with ‘Babydoll’-style attire has extended far beyond the reaches of its origins in Tokyo’s Harijuku district. It’s actually becoming an oddly tasteful style, in moderation. Take Miss Lyndel Yeo’s Award Winning Spring/Summer 2008 collection for example. Whilst toning the level of smut associated with the ‘Babydoll’ scene down to near non-existent, Yeo should also be commended upon her creating a seasonal style so exclusively signature, half the fun of wearing the garment is found in its uniqueness. Furthermore, her ‘Babydoll’ skirt and/or dress is the tip of a vast and well-clad iceberg.
Reputable for her selection of bright colours, this seasons collection features vibrant light-fuchsia and pale emerald contrasted with black hems, linings and buttons. Her overall-strapped skirts, (easily disguised as a dress when paired with any of her halter neck tops and it’s frilly bust-line) in either black or pink, hold themselves beautifully on the figure, a-lining from the hips, and given a gentle frilling to truly accentuate the feminine form. One of her most outstanding designs is a three-quarter-sleeve crop jacket. Unlike its simple cut, the jacket’s tightly pleated collar juts from the neck brilliantly; giving it the signature spunk and vibrancy Yeo is renowned for.
Entering the world of retail-fashion as a finalist in the 2005 Mercedes Benz Start Up parade, Miss Lyndel Yeo has always designed for herself, claiming a following of ‘those who love colour, life, and dressing up’ Yeo explains. To compliment her launch, Miss Yeo was also awarded ‘Designer of the Year’ at the 2005 Federation Square fashion showcase series. Since her huge 2005 debut, Yeo has seasonally developed a repertoire of fantastic designs, and with this, a reputation for exquisitely tailored garments. Aside from her habitual choice of bold colours, Miss Yeo’s jackets and gowns are a particular favourite amongst her national clientele.
