Is your wardrobe lacking in Vitamin C?

Gentlemen, do you find your clothes growing stretched? Are their colours fading? Are your hoodies lacking in interest when you go skateboarding? Do others of street culture laugh at your threads because they appear tired? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the following questions, it is suggested that you boost your wardrobe with an injection of the vibrant items found amongst ‘Carrot Clothing’s collection.

Owner and designer Alexander Gligorich began printing political statement t-shirts in 1999, whose messages challenged the views of authorities in his homeland, Serbia. ‘For that act I landed in gaol!’ he exclaims. In 2006, Gligorich launched his skateboarding and street-wear label ‘Carrot Clothing’ in Novi Sad, considered the cultural capitol of Serbia.

When asked about the name of his label, Alexander explains, ‘the name is inspired by two ideas: the ‘carrot and stick’ story [referring to the concept of the carrot being a method of coaxing, and the stick one of forcing], and the notion that the carrot is synonymous with strong roots. Carrot Clothing holds a strong grounding in street art, skateboarding, and street culture.’ Indeed, Carrot Clothing features t-shirts, hoodies, sweaters and fitted hats, emblazoned with prints inspired by street art and culture. A favourite t-shirt of mine features the print of a thee-headed crow, perched upon what appears a wiry branch. At a second glance, the twisted wood reads ‘Carrot’.

Gligorich works tirelessly at his passion, a dedication reflected in Carrot Clothing’s impressive four seasonal collections each year. To pay further tribute to Alexander’s efforts, Carrot, in collaboration with LA-based ‘JB Classics’, is releasing its first sneakers collection at the end of this year. In addition to this incredible feat, Alexander explains, ‘we are preparing a great denim line for Spring 2010!’

Carrot Clothing is sold in more than 20 countries worldwide. Amongst its stockists feature internationally renowned stores such as BKRW (Paris), Digital Gravel (USA), Urban Shop (UK) and from this spring, Carrot Clothing will also feature in the largest online streetwear shop - Karmaloop.
